Biogenesis of insulin secretory granules in vivo

A long-standing question in the field of pancreatic β-cells has been how glucose can quickly upregulate the overall expression of secretory granule proteins besides triggering the secretion of insulin. Previous studies have suggested that this induction relies primarily on the activation of post-transcriptional mechanisms, the identity of which has remained unclear.

Jakob investigates the action of a novel post-transcriptional regulatory pathway discovered by the lab. Based on initial findings in insulinoma cells & isolated pancreatic islets (Knoch et al., 2004), he
is using state-of-the-art recombinant technology in mice to elucidate the function of the components in vivo.

Jakob originally created this web site which is now maintained by Dana & Katja.
